Reverence

Privacy Policy

Effective May 25, 2026

Reverence ("we", "us") helps you record, transcribe, and reflect on sermons. We take the trust placed in us seriously. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

What we collect

  • Email address — to create and secure your account.
  • Audio recordings of sermons you choose to upload.
  • Transcripts and summaries derived from those recordings.
  • Optional profile information — a display name and your faith tradition, if you choose to share them.

Audio recordings and transcripts are shared with OpenAI for processing, as described in the Third-Party AI Processing section below.

How your data is stored and processed

Audio recordings and transcripts are stored in Supabase, in either EU or US regions. Audio is processed by OpenAI Whisper for transcription, and summaries are generated by GPT-4o-mini. Per OpenAI's API terms, OpenAI does not train its models on data submitted through the API.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell your data.
  • We do not use your data for advertising.
  • We do not share your recordings or transcripts with third parties, except the processors named in this policy as needed to deliver the service.

Analytics

Version 1 of Reverence ships without product analytics. If we later introduce analytics, it will be PostHog with IP anonymization, and this policy will be updated before that change takes effect.

Subscriptions

Subscriptions are managed by Apple (App Store) and Google (Play Store) via RevenueCat. Reverence receives only an anonymized subscription status — we never see your payment details.

Your rights

You may, at any time:

  • Export all of your data — recordings, transcripts, summaries, and account information.
  • Delete your account and all associated data.

Email hello@reverence.app with the words "export" or "delete", and we'll respond within seven days.

Children

Reverence is not directed at users under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Third-Party AI Processing

Reverence relies on OpenAI (operated by OpenAI, L.L.C., based in the United States) to power its core transcription and reflection features.

What data is sent

Audio recordings made within the app, and the resulting text transcripts.

Who it is sent to

Audio is sent to OpenAI's Whisper API for transcription. Transcripts are sent to OpenAI's GPT models for sermon summarization, scripture reference detection, reflection question generation, and 7-day Bible study plan creation.

Purpose

To convert speech to text and generate AI-assisted summaries, reflections, and study plans as core features of Reverence.

User control

You are asked for explicit consent before your first recording. Recording cannot proceed without consent. You may revoke consent at any time in Settings, which disables recording and AI features.

OpenAI's data handling

Data sent via OpenAI's API is not used by OpenAI to train its models (per OpenAI's API data usage policy as of 2026). Audio and transcripts are retained by OpenAI for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring, then deleted.

No human review by Reverence

Reverence does not access individual user recordings or transcripts except in response to a user-submitted support request.
